The author considers the piston problem for the 1D Euler system with a reaction (combustion) equation of the Arrhenius type. Initial velocity is zero, the fraction of unburnt gas is one, pressure and specific volume are given. Velocity at the boundary (i.e., the piston) is fixed. The equation of state is nonlinear. The author proves the global existence of shock or detonation wave solutions for any reaction rate and for sufficiently low binding energies per unit mass of unburnt gas.
