A bounded linear operator \(T\) from a Banach lattice \(E\) into a Banach space \(X\) is said to be almost \(M\)-weakly compact if for every disjoint sequence \((x_{n})\) in the closed unit ball \(B\) in \(E\) and every weakly convergent sequence \((f_{n})\) in the topological dual \(X'\) of \(X\), we have that \(f_{n}(T(x_{n}))\) converges to \(0\). A~bounded linear operator \(T\) from a Banach space \(X\) into a Banach lattice \(E\) is called almost \(L\)-weakly compact if its adjoint \(T'\) is almost \(M\)-weakly compact. In the paper under review, the authors present necessary and sufficient conditions under which compact operators between Banach lattices must be almost \(L\)-weakly compact (respectively, almost \(M\)-weakly compact). Also, they introduce some interesting connections between almost \(L\)-weakly compact and \(L\)-weakly compact operators (respectively, almost \(M\)-weakly compact and \(M\)-weakly compact operators).
