    Summary: In this paper, we prove that, if \(C^{\ast \ast}\) is a \(\varepsilon\)-separable bounded subset of \(X^{\ast \ast}\), then every convex function \(g \leq \sigma_C\) is Gâteaux differentiable at a dense \(G_\delta\) subset \(G\) of \(X^\ast\) if and only if every subset of \(\partial \sigma_C(0) \cap X\) is weakly dentable. Moreover, we also prove that, if \(C\) is a closed convex set, then \(d \sigma_C(x^\ast) = x\) if and only if \(x\) is a weakly exposed point of \(C\) exposed by \(x^\ast\). Finally, we prove that \(X\) is an Asplund space if and only if, for every bounded closed convex set \(C^\ast\) of \(X^\ast\), there exists a dense subset \(G\) of \(X^{\ast \ast}\) such that \(\sigma_{C^\ast}\) is Gâteaux differentiable on \(G\) and \(d \sigma_{C^\ast}(G) \subset C^\ast\). We also prove that \(X\) is an Asplund space if and only if, for every \(w^\ast\)-lower semicontinuous convex function \(f\), there exists a dense subset \(G\) of \(X^{\ast \ast}\) such that \(f\) is Gâteaux differentiable on \(G\) and \(d f(G) \subset X^\ast\).
