Korn's inequality is a generalisation of a classical theorem, stating that if the gradient of a vector field is screw symmetric in each point, this gradient is equal to a constant screw symmetric matrix. If the condition is not fulfilled, Korn's inequality gives a measure for how ``far'' the vector field is from the screw symmetry. Screw symmetry is a property of commutators of differential operators like those spanning the basis of the Heisenberg group. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that the author works on a generalisation of Korn's inequality. Based on a symmetric and a symplectic operator, an operator is constructed which helps to generate the boundary for the inequality. The construction consists of seven theorems, is quite involved and understandable only for experts on this narrow field.
