In their paper [\textit{A. Conca} et al., J. Reine Angew. Math. 474, 113--138 (1996; Zbl 0866.13010)] the authors showed that the Rees algebra of a balanced rational normal scroll is a Koszul algebra. Hence, by a result of \textit{S. Blum} [J. Algebra 242, No. 2, 795--809 (2001; Zbl 1042.13001)] it follows that balanced rational normal scrolls have linear powers. In the present paper the authors prove that any rational normal scroll has linear powers. They answer positively the question that was raised by \textit{J. Herzog}, \textit{T. Hibi} and \textit{H. Ohsugi} [in: Combinatorial aspects of commutative algebra and algebraic geometry. The Abel symposium 2009. Proceedings of the 6th Abel symposium, Voss, Norway, June 1--4, 2009. Berlin: Springer. 49--60 (2011; Zbl 1317.13009)].
