The problem is to find conditions (necessary, sufficient) for a semigroup ring \(R(S)\) of a semigroup \(S\) to be semiprime, semiprimitive, prime, and primitive. The authors extend \textit{W. D. Munn}'s techniques [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A 107, 175-196 (1987; Zbl 0627.20041); and ibid. 115, No. 1-2, 109-117 (1990; Zbl 0708.16004)] and generalize his results concerning the mentioned problem to wider classes of semigroups: restriction, weakly ample and ample semigroups. A number of examples is given.
