Let \(G_n=\mathrm{Sp}(n,F)\) or \(\mathrm{SO}(2n+1,F)\) over a local nonarchimedean field \(F\). In this paper, the authors give a complete description of Jacquet modules of representations of \(G_n\) of segment type. Such representations are defined as follows. Let \(\rho\) be an irreducible cuspidal representation of \(\mathrm{GL}(r,F)\). Set \(\nu = |\det|_F\). For \(a, b \in \mathbb{R}\) such that \(b-a \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}\), we denote by \(\delta([\nu^a \rho, \nu^b \rho])\) the unique irreducible subrepresentation of \(\nu^b \rho \times \cdots \times \nu^a \rho\). Suppose that \(a+b \geq 0\) and that \(\sigma\) is an irreducible cuspidal representation of \(G_m\) such that the induced representation \[ \delta([\nu^a \rho, \nu^b \rho]) \rtimes \sigma \] reduces. Then any irreducible subquotient of the above representation which contains \( \delta([\nu^a \rho, \nu^b \rho]) \otimes \sigma \) in its Jacquet module (with respect to the standard parabolic subgroup), is called a representation of segment type. The approach is based on \textit{M. Tadić} [J. Algebra 177, No. 1, 1--33 (1995; Zbl 0874.22014)]. Let \(G(H)\) be the Grothendieck group of the category of smooth representations of \(H\) of finite length. Set \(R= \bigoplus_n R(GL(n,F))\) and \(R(G)= \bigoplus_nR(G_n)\). Then \(R(G)\) is an \(R\)-module and \(R\)-comodule. The comodule structure \(\mu^*: R(G) \to R \otimes R(G)\) is defined using Jacquet modules. In the paper under review, the authors describe explicitly \(\mu^*(\pi)\) for a representation \(\pi\) of segment type.
