Two quantization schemes for systems with classical configuration manifold \(Q\) are considered. The first one, developed by \textit{B. Angermann, H. D. Doebner} and \textit{J. Tolar} [Lect. Notes Math. 1037, 171-208 (1983; Zbl 0549.58009)] starts out from the so-called Borel kinematics \((L(Q), X_c(Q))\) on \(Q\), where \(L(Q)\) denotes the \(\sigma\)-algebra of Borel sets on \(Q\) and \(X_c(Q)\) denotes the set of complete smooth vector fields on \(Q\). The second one, developed by J. Souriau, B. Kostant and others [see, e.g., \textit{A. A. Kirillov}, Dynamical systems. IV. Symplectic geometry and its applications, Encycl. Math. Sci. 4, 137-172 (1990); translation from Itogi Nauki Tekh., Ser. Sovrem. Probl. Mat., Fundam. Napravleniya 4, 141-178 (1985; Zbl 0780.58024)] is the so-called geometric quantization scheme, specialized to the situation that the phase space is a cotangent bundle \(T^*Q\). Here one starts out from a canonically given complex line bundle over \(T^*Q\) and uses the polarization given by the fibers of \(T^*Q\). In both cases quantization is achieved by constructing a Hilbert space that is supposed to give the quantum mechanical wave functions in position representation. The goal of the present paper is to show that both schemes are equivalent in a certain sense.
