Let \(A\) be a unital complex Banach algebra and \(a\in A\). For an interval \(K\), the Banach algebra \((C(K),*_ n)\) with the \(J^ n\)-multiplication \(*_ n\) is considered. The author proves that the element \(a\in A\) is of class \(C^ n\) if and only if there exists a continuous representation \(U\) of \((C(K),*_ n)\) on \(A\) such that \(U1 = {{a^ n} \over {n!}}\); \(U\) is uniquely determined. A perturbation result for semigroups of operators is also obtained.
