First, a Jordan basis for the matrix transformation \(X\mapsto A^ TX+XB\), where \(A,B\) are companion matrices of \(X^ m\), \(X^ n\) over the rational field, is constructed by a recursive method. Second, a connection between Jordan bases for the above transformation over an arbitrary field \(F\) and the matrix transformation \(X\mapsto(\lambda I+A)^ TX(\mu I+B)\), valid for nonzero elements \(\lambda\), \(\mu\) of \(F\), is established. An example is given to compute a Jordan basis over the rational field.
