The authors give, in the framework of a complete metric space \(X\), some fixed point results for multivalued \(\varphi\)-contractions (i.e., \(H(T(x),T(y))\leq \varphi(d(x,y))\) for each \(x,y\in X\)) with nonempty, closed and proximinal values. A higher order of convergence is obtained. The results extend some previous theorems given by \textit{P. D. Proinov} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 67, No. 8 (A), 2361--2369 (2007; Zbl 1130.54021)]. As application, an existence and uniqueness theorem for a first-order initial value problem with single-valued operators is given.
