The aim of the present paper is to study the behavior of return times for mixing dynamical systems at periodic points and to find that their limiting distribution is not a classical Poisson distribution but a compound Poisson distribution. To this direction the authors manage to provide special conditions under which one obtains a compound Poisson distribution with error terms (see Proposition 1) and to prove a general theorem that can be used to establish compound Poisson distributions in many other settings.
