Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity. The zero-divisor complex, inspired by and generalizing the zero-divisor graph, is defined to be a simplicial complex \(\Delta(R)\) with vertex set consisting of all non-zero proper ideals of \(R\) and simplex \(\sigma=\{I_0,I_1,\ldots, I_n\}\in \Delta(R)\) if and only if \(I_0I_1\hdots I_n \neq 0\). In the paper under review, the authors determine the homotopy type of the ideal zero-divisor complex when \(R\) is finite and in the case when \(R\) has infinitely many maximal ideals. In order to determine the homotopy type in these cases, the authors utilize discrete Morse theory.
