The paper under review proposes the following conjecture: Let \(X\) be a projective manifold such that \(K_X\) is pseudoeffective. Then there exists a positive integer \(m\) such that \(H^0(X,(\Omega^1_X)^{\otimes m})\neq 0\). It implies a conjecture of Mumford on rationally connected varieties (Prop 2.1). The authors prove the conjecture in dimension four when the Kodaira dimension is not two (Theorem 1.2). Several higher dimensional cases are also established conditionally. The proof is by a careful analysis of the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch for line bundles together with a refinement of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing.
