The paper under review deals with a class of nonlinear Dirichlet elliptic equations driven by the sum of the \(p\)-Laplace operator and the standard linear Laplacian. The reaction term is superlinear in the positive direction and sublinear resonant in the negative direction. Resonance can also occur asymptotically at zero. A feature of this paper is that the nonlinearity does not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz growth condition. The main result of this paper establishes the existence of at least three nontrivial smooth solutions. The proof combines refined variational methods based on the critical point theory with Morse theory (critical groups).
