The authors study the weak well-posedness results and the existence of global attractors for the following initial-boundary problem for the higher order Allen-Cahn equation \[ \begin{cases} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}+\sum_{i=1}^k\,(-1)^k\sum_{|\alpha|=i}\,a_{\alpha}\,D^{2\,\alpha} u+f(u)=0,\quad x\in \Omega,\,\,t\in (0,T),\\ D^{\alpha} u\big|_{\partial \Omega}=0,\quad |\alpha|\le k-1,\\ u\big|_{t=0}=u_0, \end{cases} \tag{1} \] where \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^3\) is bounded with smooth boundary. If \(f\in C^{1}(\mathbb{R})\), \(f(0)=0\), \(f'\ge c_0\), \(s\,f'(s)\ge c_1\,F(s)-c_2\ge -c_3\), \(F(s)\ge c_4\,s^4-c_5\), where \(c_0,c_1, c_4>0, c_2, c_3, c_5\ge 0\), \(F(s)=\int_0^s\,f(\tau)\,d\tau\) and \(u_0\in H^{2 k}(\Omega)\cap H^k_0(\Omega)\), then using the Galerkin method, for all \(T>0\) is proved the existence of a unique weak solution \(u\) to the problem (1) such that \(u\in L^{\infty}\big(\mathbb{R}^{+};H^{2 k}(\Omega)\cap H^k_0(\Omega)\big)\), \(\frac{\partial u}{\partial t}\in L^2\big(0,T;L^2(\Omega)\big)\). It follows that the semigroup \(S(t): H^k_0(\Omega)\mapsto H^k_0(\Omega)\) is defined and \(S(t)\) possesses the global attractor \(\mathcal{A}\) which is compact in \(H^k_0(\Omega)\) and bounded in \(H^{2 k}(\Omega)\). The similar result was obtained for the following initial-boundary problem for the higher order Cahn-Hilliard equation \[ \begin{cases} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}-\Delta \sum_{i=0}^k\,a_{\alpha}\,D^{2\,\alpha} u-\Delta f(u)=0,\quad x\in \Omega,\,\,t\in (0,T),\\ D^{\alpha} u\big|_{\partial \Omega}=0,\quad |\alpha|\le k,\\ u\big|_{t=0}=u_0. \end{cases} \] For the problem (1) the authors give the numerical simulations in the cases \(k=1,2,3\) and \(\Omega=(0,1)\times(0,1)\).
