Let \(A\) be a complex Banach algebra. \textit{M. Brešar} and \textit{P. Šemrl} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 351, No. 3, 1257--1275 (1999; Zbl 0920.15009)] have shown that, for a commuting pair of continuous derivations \(d\) and \(\delta\) on \(A\), every element \(d\delta(a)^3\) \((a\in A)\) has to be in the radical of \(A\) if \(d\delta(a)\) is quasinilpotent for each \(a\in A\). It has been observed by \textit{M. A. Chebotar, W.-F. Ke} and \textit{P.-H. Lee} [Q. J. Math. 57, No. 4, 469--478 (2006; Zbl 1155.47039)] that commutativity is not necessary. In the present paper, this result is extended to \(q\)-skew \(\sigma\)-derivations. Recall that a linear map \(\delta: A\to A\) is a \(\sigma\)-derivation, where \(\sigma\) is an automorphism of \(A\), if \(\delta(ab)=\delta(a)b+\sigma(a)\delta(b) \) \((a, b\in A)\). If \( \sigma \delta \sigma^{-1}=q\delta\) for some \(0\neq q\in \mathbb{C}\), then \(\delta\) is a \(q\)-skew \(\sigma\)-derivation. Thus, the main result of the paper reads as follows. Let \(\sigma\) be an automorphism of a complex Banach algebra \(A\) and let \(d, \delta\) be \(q\)-skew \(\sigma\)-derivations of \(A\). If \(d\delta(a)\) is quasinilpotent for every \(a\in A\), then \(d\delta(a)^3\) is in the radical of \(A\) for all \(a\in A\).
