The authors analyze the existence of block \(LU\) factorization for the complex symmetric block tridiagonal matrices whose real and imaginary parts are positive definite and whose every block also has positive definite real and imaginary parts. They provide an error analysis of the block \(LU\) factorization for the complex symmetric block tridiagonal matrix and a new backward error analysis, together with an analysis of the stability of the factorization.
