Let \(M\) be a closed manifold with a Lie foliation having structure group \(G\). One can define, up to leafwise homotopy, a \(G\)-action that is transverse to the foliation. This action induces an action on reduced leafwise cohomology. Because the reduced leafwise cohomology may be infinite-dimensional, the supertrace may fail to define the leafwise Lefschetz number as a function on \(G\). However, \textit{J. A. Álvarez López} and \textit{Y. A. Kordyukov} [Basel: Birkhäuser. Trends in Mathematics, 1--40 (2008; Zbl 1146.58013)] showed that the leafwise Lefschetz construction, restricted to local (in \(G\)) representations of the action, does define a distribution on appropriate open subsets of \(G\). For a regular cover of \(M\), the paper under review establishes an \(L^{2}\) version of this Lefschetz distribution and shows that, in a neighborhood of the identity, the \(L^{2}\) Lefschetz distribution agrees with the Lefschetz distribution on \(M\).
