Let \(P(L;v,z) \in {\mathbb Z} [v^{\pm1}, z^{\pm1}]\) be the HOMFLY polynomial of an oriented link \(L\). Then \(\bigtriangledown(L;z) = P(L;1,z)\) is the Conway polynomial of \(L\), and \(V(L; t) = P(L;t, t^{\frac 1 2} - t^{-\frac 1 2})\) is the Jones polynomial of \(L\). It is known that for an oriented knot \(K\), \[ P(K;v,t) = \displaystyle \sum_{j=0}^\infty P_{2j}(L;v)z^{2j}. \] If \(K\) and \(K'\) are oriented knots, call \(P(K';v,z)\) a fake HOMFLY polynomial of \(K\) with identical order \(2m\) if \(P_{2j}(K';v,z) = P_{2j}(K;v,z)\) for \(0 \leq j \leq m\). Denoting by \(\sigma(K)\) the signature of \(K\), by \(d_G(K,K')\) the Gordian distance between \(K\) and \(K'\), by \(d_{pass}(K,K')\) the minimum number of pass-over moves to change \(K\) to \(K'\), and by \(f_q(K)\) the finite type invariant of \(K\) of order \(q\), the author shows that given an oriented knot \(K\), there are infinitely many oriented knots \(K_n\) such that \(P(K_n;v,z)\) is a fake HOMFLY polynomial of \(K\) of any given order \(2m\), \(\bigtriangledown(K_n;z) = \bigtriangledown(K;z)\), \(\sigma(K_n) = \sigma(K)\), \(d_G(K_n,K) = 1\), \(d_{\text{pass}}(K_n,K) = 1\), and \(f_j(K_n) = f_j(K)\) for \( 0 \leq j \leq q\) for any given \(q>0\). As a Corollary, for any \(m \geq 0\), there are infinitely many knots \(K_n\) with trivial \(P_{2j}(K_n;v,z)\). It is also shown that \(K_n\) can be chosen to satisfy \(\bigtriangledown(K_n;z) \neq \bigtriangledown(K;z)\) and all other properties listed in the above.
