    This paper is devoted to an examination of the family of piecewise smooth systems of ordinary differential equations on the plane formed by combining \[ \dot x = -x + y - b_1,\,\dot y = - p x - b_2, \] in the left half-plane and \[ \dot x = (\frac13 - 2 x) y,\, \dot y = -x - 3 x^2 + y^2, \] in the right half-plane, where \(p\), \(b_1\), and \(b_2\) are positive real constants and \(p > \frac14\). It is shown that the family admits a number of bifurcation phenomena, among them a new phenomenon, the sliding heteroclinic bifurcation.
