The authors show that, if a bounded linear operator \(T\) on a complex Hilbert space is an invertible class \(A\) operator with trace class self-commutator, then the support of the principal function of \(T\) is contained in the spectrum of \(T\). They also prove that the reverse inclusion holds, provided that \(T\) is pure.
