The main result of this note is the following. Let \(G=\langle a,b,\dots\mid r=1\rangle\) be a one-relator group presented on at least two generators. Suppose that \(w\) is any element in the ambient free group \(F\) on the generators \(a,b,\dots\) which does not commute with \(r\), then \(G(r,w)=\langle a,b,\dots\mid r^{r^w}=r^2\rangle\) is a one-relator non-residually finite group with the same finite images as \(G\).
