The authors extend in this paper the standard method of upper and lower solutions for elliptic problems to the case of nonsmooth domains. The general framework considered by the authors includes polygonal domains in \(\mathbb R^2\) or domains in \(\mathbb R^N\) (\(N\geq 3\)) with conical points. The results are first obtained in an abstract setting by means of topological degree arguments. Then, various concrete results for different types of nonsmooth domains are presented. Some interesting examples provided in the last section of the paper illustrate the importance of the results.
