The \(g\)-theorem characterizes the \(f\)-vectors of simplicial polytopes, and it has long been conjectured that it extends to homology spheres. Indeed, since homology spheres are doubly Cohen-Macaulay (abbreviated to \(2\)-CM), and it is known that the \(g\)-vectors of some other classes of \(2\)-CM complexes are M-sequences, there is a further extension by Björner and \textit{Ed Swartz} [J. Comb. Theory Ser. A 113, No. 7, 1305--1320 (2006; Zbl 1102.13025)] of the \(g\)-conjecture to \(2\)-CM complexes. In this paper, the author shows that, if \(d \geq 3\), then the \(1\)-skeleton of any \((d - 1)\)-dimensional \(2\)-CM complex is generically \(d\)-rigid, and thence that the initial part \((g_0,g_1,g_2)\) of its \(g\)-vector is an M-sequence.
