The authors consider the Dirichlet eigenvalue problem on a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\) and prove an inequality involving the eigenvalues \(\{\lambda_{k}\}_{k\in\mathbb N}\), a corresponding orthonormal system of eigenfunctions, and an arbitrary function \(g\in C^{3}(M)\cap C^{2}(\partial M)\). As an application, the authors consider the case of a connected bounded domain of the complex projective space \(\mathbb CP^{n}(4)\) with holomorphic sectional curvature \(4\) and prove that \[ \begin{aligned} \lambda_{k+1}&\leq\biggl(1+ {1\over n} \biggr){1\over k}\sum_{i=1}^{k}\lambda_{i}+2(n+1)\\ &+\biggl\{ \biggl[ {1\over n}{1\over k}\sum_{i=1}^{k}\lambda_{i}+2(n+1) \biggr]^{2} - \left(1+ {2\over n} \right){1\over k}\sum_{j=1}^{k} \biggl( \lambda_{j}-{1\over k}\sum_{i=1}^{k}\lambda_{i} \biggr)^{2} \biggr\}^{1/2}\end{aligned} \] Then a similar inequality is derived for the case of a compact complex hypersurface without boundary in \(\mathbb CP^{n+1}(4)\).
