The paper under review studies finite Abelian actions on surfaces, which is directly associated with the study of the oriented bordism group \(\Omega_2(G)\) (an equivariant analog of the Thom oriented bordism group) for a finite Abelian group \(G\). Given a closed connected oriented surface \(M\), any action of \(G\) on \(M\) is assumed to be orientation-preserving and free. By a theorem of Edmonds, two such actions are equivariantly orientation-preserving diffeomorphic if and only if they have the same bordism class in \(\Omega_2(G)\). The main result of the paper gives a formula for the number of bordism classes of all such actions on \(M\).
