Assume that a planar polynomial system of differential equations has a center rest point \(p\); let \({\mathcal P}\) be the maximal punctured neighborhood of \(p\) filled with closed orbits. The authors study the period function (i.e., the function that assigns to each closed orbit in \({\mathcal P}\) its period) near the boundary component of \({\mathcal P}\) which is different from \(p\) itself. This boundary component is a polycycle. A desingularization process is applied to the rest points of the polycycle to get hyperbolic saddles or saddle-nodes at the vertices. After that, the asymptotics of the period function is obtained.
