Conditions for the existence of continuous maps from a closed subset \(P\) of the real line onto \({P^2}\) are presented. The authors construct an example of an indefinite differentiable function from \(\mathbb R\) to \(\mathbb R^2\) that maps an unbounded perfect set \(P\) onto \({P^2}\). A nonexistence result related to compact perfect sets is proved and two open problems are posed.
