The aim of the authors is the extension of the idea of a two-step collocation method, already understood in the context of ordinary differential equations to the case of Volterra integral equations (VIEs). The paper begins with an overview of the basic ideas, and and then sets out to construct almost two-step collocation methods for VIEs. The technique is based on using a collocation technique and then relaxing some of the collocation and interpolation conditions to obtain desired stability properties. The authors present continuous order conditions for the two-step collocation method and go on to present stability analyses first for the basic test equation and then for the convolution test equation. The paper concludes with examples for one-stage and two-stage methods.
