Ist \(\mathfrak u = u_1(x_1, x_2, x_3) \mathfrak i + u_2(x_1, x_2, x_3) \mathfrak j + u_3(x_1, x_2, x_3) \mathfrak k\) ein von dem Punkte \(P(x_1, x_2, x_3)\) abhängiger Vektor, so bezeichnet man mit dem Symbol \(K\dfrac{d\mathfrak u}{dP}\) die Vektor-Homographie \(\alpha\), deren (dreispaltige) Matrix mit den Elementen \[ a_{rs} = \dfrac{\partial u_s}{\partial x_r}\qquad (r,s =1,2,3) \] gebildet ist. Verf. fragt sich, ob es eine Ortsfunktion \(\varphi(x_1, x_2, x_3)\) gibt, mit der Eigenschaft, daß man stets \[ \alpha(P - O) = \operatorname{grad} \varphi \] hat, wo \(O\) einen festen Punkt bedeutet. Er findet sehr einfach, daß die notwendige und hinreichende Bedingung dafür die ist, daß auch \(\mathfrak u\) ein Gradient ist: \(\mathfrak u = \operatorname{grad}\psi\).
