Um die Klassenzahl und die Struktur der Klassengruppe eines gegebenen algebraischen Zahlkörpers mittels endlich vieler rationaler Schritte zu bestimmen, genügt es zu entscheiden, ob ein gegebenes Ideal eine Zahl enthält, deren Norm gleich einer gegebenen ganzen rationalen Zahl wird. Diese Entscheidung kann, wie Verf. auf Grund eines Hilfssatzes über diophantische Approximationen zeigt, immer mit endlich vielen rationalen Schritten getroffen werden.
