\textit{S. Albeverio} et al. showed in [J. Math. Phys. 51, No. 10, 102102, 24 p. (2010; Zbl 1314.81059)] that Molchanov's famous necessary and sufficient condition for the discreteness of the spectrum of a semibounded Sturm-Liouville operator persists when suitably restricted delta-interactions are added to the potential. In following their steps when the potential \(Q\) and the strength \(A_k\) of the delta-interaction at point \(x_k\) are symmetric matrices, the authors of the present paper show that a Molchanov-type condition involving the smallest (largest) eigenvalue of \(Q(x)\) and of \(A_k\) is sufficient (necessary) for the discreteness of the spectrum.
