The authors obtain the following. Let Q(x) be a real quadratic form of \(n>8\) variables, nonzero determinant D and signature -3. Then, given any real vector r, there is an integral vector x such that \[ 0<Q(x+r)\leq (2^{n-2}| D|)^{1/n}, \] and this bound is best possible.
