Let \(\tau\) be a type of algebras and \(X\) an alphabet. A hypersubstitution of type \(\tau\) is a mapping assigning to each fundamental operation symbol a term of type \(\tau\) over \(X\) of the same arity. This mapping can be extended in a unique natural way to a mapping from the set \(W_\tau(X)\) of all terms of type \(\tau\) over \(X\) to itself. It is proved that in case \(| X| =2\) the number of different positive powers of a hypersubstitution of type \((2,2)\) is either less than \(5\) or infinite.
