Let \(W_ 1=Der K[x]\) be the (one-sided) Witt algebra of derivations of K[x] over a field K. Th author identifies the dual Lie coalgebra \(W^ 0_ 1\). If characteristic \(K\neq 2\), \(f\in W^*_ 1\) is in \(W^ 0_ 1\) if and only if the sequence \((f(e_ i))_{i\geq -1}\) is linearly recursive, where \(\{e_ i\}\) is the basis \(e_ i=x^{i+1} d/dx\) of \(W_ 1\) for \(i\geq -1\). For characteristic \(K=2\), f is in \(W^ 0_ 1\) if and only if \((f(e_{2n-1}))_{n\geq 0}\) is linearly recursive. If K is algebraically closed, the author expresses the Lie coalgebra of linearly recursive sequences over K as a direct sum of Lie subcoalgebras, each of which is isomorphic to the Lie coalgebra of divided powers, i.e., has a basis \(\{u_ n\}\) for \(n\geq -1\) such that the Lie cobracket \(\Delta\) satisfies \(\Delta u_ n=\sum_{i+j=n}(j-i)u_ i\otimes u_ j\). (See the preceding review, where \textit{W. Michaelis} shows that \(Loc(W^ 0_ 1)=0\) if K has characteristic zero).
