The aim of this paper is to study and to characterize the whole spectrum for some operator matrices in a Hilbert space arising in many models in mechanics. Some fundamental properties on the spectrum of the so-called the definitizable operators are provided. The operator matrices have many applications in models describing transverse motions of a thin beam. The models are given by second-order partial differential equations.
