    For a topological group \(G\), let \(\mathrm{LUC}(G)\) be the space of bounded right uniformly continuous functions on \(G\). Then the norm dual \(\mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast\) of \(\mathrm{LUC}(G)\) with convolution \(\star\) is a Banach algebra. The topological centre of \(\mathrm{LUC}(G)\) is \[ \Lambda\left( \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast \right) = \{ \mathfrak{m}\in \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast : \mathfrak{n}\mapsto \mathfrak{m}\star\mathfrak{n} \; \text{ is } \; \text{weak}^\ast \; \text{continuous}\; \text{on}\; \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast \}. \] The space \(\mathbf{M}_t (G)\) of (finite signed) Radon measures on \(G\) naturally embeds in \(\mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast\). \textit{A. T. M. Lau} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 99, 273--283 (1986; Zbl 0591.43003)] proved that \(\Lambda\left( \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast \right) = \mathbf{M}_t (G)\) for every locally compact group \(G\). The author proves a stronger version of Lau's result replacing weak* continuity in the definition of \(\Lambda\left( \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast \right)\) by measurability. He also proves similar characterizations for certain subsemigroups of \(\Lambda\left( \mathrm{LUC}(G)^\ast \right)\). Some interesting applications are given.
