Die Bestimmung der Asymptotenlinien der Flächen \[ s = f(x) y^2 + ky + \psi(x) \] führt auf eine Differentialgleichung von der Form: \[ y^{\prime 2} + A(x) y^2 + B(x)yy^\prime + C (x) = 0, \] die im allgemeinen nicht durch Quadraturen lösbar ist. Sie wird auf die Form \[ \left( \frac {dY}{dX} \right)^2 + Y^2 = F(X) \] gebracht. Es werden drei besondere Werte von F(X) angegeben, für die die Lösung durch Quadraturen möglich ist.
