Consider the nonlinear impulsive differential system \[ \begin{aligned} & \dot{x}(t) = f(t,x(t)), \;\;\;t \neq \tau_k\, , \\ & \Delta x(t)= x(t^+)-x(t^-)= I_k (x), \;\;t = \tau_k\, , \end{aligned}\tag{1} \] where \(x \in \mathbb{R}^n\) is the state variable, \(f : \mathbb{R}_+ \times \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^n\) is continuous with \(f(\cdot,0)=0, I_k : \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^n\) is continuous with \(I_k(0)=0, \{\tau_k\} (k=1,2,\dots)\) are impulsive instants satisfying \(0 \leq t_0 < \tau_1 < \tau_2 < \dots < \tau_k < \dots\). It is also supposed that \(\tau_k \to \infty\) as \(k \to \infty\) and \(x(t^-)=x(t)\). For this system the authors introduce a multi-comparison system and prove a new comparison lemma, which establishes sufficient conditions which imply from the global asymptotic stability of the trivial solution of the multi-comparison system to follow the global asymptotic stability of the trivial solution of system (1). Using this lemma, by appropriate choice of the vector Lyapunov functions for the multi-comparison system, the authors derive some efficient conditions for the global asymptotic stability of the origin of system (1). The obtained results are applied into an impulsive control of a specific chaotic system. Some simulations are presented to show the efficiency of the designed impulsive controller for this chaotic system.
