It is known that any \(n\)-dimensional Lie algebra \(L\) can be realized as an algebra of matrices of a certain size \(N = N(L)\). It is difficult to construct examples with \(N -n \geq 2\). Since the presence of a grading simplifies the construction of faithful representations, it is reasonable to search for examples with large \(N(L)\) among the characteristically nilpotent Lie algebras. In the current note, the author explains why nilpotent Lie algebras usually are characteristically nilpotent, i.e., the algebra of derivations of \(L\) is nilpotent.
