    The Cauchy problem for the dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono equation is considered: \[ \partial_{t}u+|\partial_{x}|^{1+\alpha}\partial_{x}u+uu_{x}=0,\quad u(x,0)=u_{0}(x)\eqno (1), \] where \(0\leq\alpha\leq 1,\) \(u:{\mathbb{R}}^{2}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) is a real-valued function and \(|\partial_{x}|\) is the Fourier multiplier operator with symbol \(|\xi|.\) The case \(\alpha=0\) (\(\alpha=1\)) corresponds to the Benjamin-Ono equation (to the Korteweg-de Vries equation). Main results: Theorem. (a) Let \(0\leq\alpha\leq 1.\) Assume \(s>1\) and \(u_{0}\in H^{\infty}.\) Then there exists \(T=T(\|u_{0}\|_{H^{s}})>0\) such that there is a unique solution \(u=S_{T}^{\infty}(u_{0})\in C([-T,T]:H^{\infty})\) of the Cauchy problem (1). In addition, for any \(\sigma\geq s\), \[ \sup_{|t|\leq T}\|S_{T}^{\infty}(u_{0})(t)\|_{H^{\sigma}}\leq C(T,\sigma,\|u_{0}\|_{H^{\sigma}}). \] (b) Moreover, the mapping \(S_{T}^{\infty}:H^{\infty}\rightarrow C([-T,T]:H^{\infty})\) extends uniquely to a continuous mapping \[ S_{T}^{s}:H^{s}\rightarrow C([-T,T]:H^{\infty}). \] If \(\frac{1}{3}<\alpha\leq1,\) then \(1-\alpha<\frac{1+\alpha}{2}.\) Corollary. The Cauchy problem (1) is globally well-posed in \(H^{s}\) for \(s\geq\frac{1+\alpha}{2}\) if \(\frac{1}{3}<\alpha\leq1.\)
