The paper describes a construction which associates to every connected \(p\)-compact group \(G\) of homological dimension \(d\) a \(d\)-dimensional sphere \(S_G\) with a stable \(G\)-action; in the case of the localization of a compact Lie group it is equivalent to the localization of the one-point compactification of the Lie algebra of \(G\) with the adjoint action. The construction has some functorial properties. The result is used to associate to any \(p\)-compact group an element of the \(p\)-local stems. In the case of the \(p\)-completion of a compact Lie group \(G\), the construction produces an element represented by the underlying manifold \(G\) with its left-invariant framing.
