Polynomial representations of knots (Q811670): Difference between revisions

It is shown that every 1-dimensional knot-type in the three dimensional Euclidean space has polynomial representations. Specific representations have been written down for the trefoil knot and the figure eight knot. This result strengthens a conjecture of Abhyankar that there do exist ring-theoretic epimorphisms of the ring of polynomials in three variables onto the ring of polynomials in one variable that are not conjugate to the standard projection map under any ring-theoretic automorphisms. It may be interesting to see some recent works of S. Kaliman in this regard.
