    Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be linear spaces over the same field \(K \in \{\mathbb{R},\mathbb{C}\}\), endowed with the inner product denoted by \(\langle \cdot |\cdot \rangle\). Let a map \(f: X \to Y\) preserve the inner product approximately up to a negligible set, i.e., with an \(\varepsilon > 0\), \[ |\langle f(x)|f(y) \rangle - \langle x|y \rangle |< \varepsilon, \quad x, y \in X^2 \setminus M, \tag{1} \] where \(M \in \Omega(J)\) -- a proper linearly invariant (p.l.i.) ideal, the largest one conjugate to the p.l.i. ideal \(J\) in \(X\). Then there exists a set \(E\subseteq J\) and a true inner product preserving mapping \(g: X \to Y\); i.e., satisfying (1) with \(\varepsilon = 0\) such that \[ \|f(x) - g(x) \|\leq 3~\sqrt \varepsilon, \quad x \in X \setminus E . \] [For the notion and properties of p.l.i. ideals cf. \textit{R. Ger}, Fundam. Math. 89, 131-149 (1975; Zbl 0322.39017) and ibid. 98, 249-272 (1978; Zbl 0382.39005).] A comprehensive discussion showing the place of the results in the literature of the problems is also found in the paper.
