A matrix is of quadratic type if it satisfies a nontrivial quadratic equation \(p(T) = 0\). In this paper all sums of two quadratic matrices are characterized as matrices similar to direct sums of matrices of special forms. Also all products of an involution and a unipotent index 2 matrix are characterized. It is a little interesting that both characterizations involve the equations for lag 2 shift equivalence.
