The author considers an integral equation of the form \(f -Tf = g\) with \[ (Tf) (x) = \int^ \infty_ 0 k(x,y) f(y)dy \quad (x \geq 0), \] where \(k\) is a given kernel, and \(f,g \in {\mathcal B} (\mathbb{R}^ +)\), the space of bounded continuous functions on \(\mathbb{R}^ + = [0, \infty)\). Here \(g\) is given and \(f\) is unknown, and the paper is concerned with the convergence of \(f_ \beta\) to \(f\) as \(\beta \to \infty\), where \(f_ \beta \in {\mathcal B} (\mathbb{R}^ +)\) is a finite-section approximation obtained by replacing the infinite limit of integration by \(\beta>0\). The paper gives conditions under which, if the finite section approximation is stable for the original integral equation, then it is stable also for the perturbed equation in which the kernel \(k\) is replaced by \(k + h\). The class of allowed perturbations includes all compact and some noncompact perturbations of the integral operator. The conditions are used to establish error bounds, in weighted spaces, for \(f - f_ \beta\) and the asymptotics behavior at infinity of \(f\). As a particular case, the author considers a perturbation of a Wiener- Hopf integral equations arising in acoustics.
