In this paper, the authors study a class of superlinear elliptic equations \[ -\Delta u+V(x)u=f(x,u),\;u\in H^{1}_{0}(\Omega) \] where \(\Omega\subset\mathbb R^{N}\) is a periodic domain, i.e. there exist a partition \((Q_{m})_{m\geq 1}\) of \(\Omega\) and a sequence of points \((y_{m})_{m\geq 1}\subset\mathbb R^{N}\) such that (i) \((y_{m})_{m\geq 1}\) forms a subgroup of \(\mathbb R^{N}\) (ii) \(Q_{0}\) is a bounded set and \(Q_{m}=Q_{0}+y_{m}\), \(m\geq 1\), and \(\Omega\) is bounded if \(V\) is constant. Using variational methods and the generalized Nehari manifold due to Szulkin and Weth and under some suitable conditions on \(f\) and \(V\), they prove the existence of the ground state and the multiplicity of solutions for the above equation.
