The work carried out in this paper was motivated by the study of a bioconvective phenomenon simulation. Arising from this phenomenon is a system of linear equations whose numerical solution by the cyclic odd- even reduction is the main focus of attention. More precisely, the authors examine a class of algorithms related to the cyclic odd-even reduction for solving the discrete Poisson equation with Dirichlet boundary condition over a rectangle. Their extension of the error analysis leads to some new useful theoretical results. It is shown that the cyclic reduction Poisson solver is superior to the more often used iterative ones.
