The authors introduce a new class of pseudodifferential operators, in the Weyl representation, which is analogous to a class of elliptic unbounded pseudodifferential operators and is, therefore, suitable for obtaining upper and lower estimates on the eigenvalues of operators in the class. Such estimates are established and it is shown that a compact operator \(\sigma(D,x)\) from this class with a \(\tau^+\) elliptic-weight symbol belongs to the Schatten-von Neumann class \(S_{p,q}\) if and only if its symbol \(\sigma\in {\mathcal C}^\infty({\mathbb R}^{2d})\) belongs to the Lorentz space \(L^{p,q}({\mathbb R}^{2d})\).
